Rebel Youth

, July 29, 2013

Karlheinz Weinberger, an amateur photographer recognised only 6 years before his death in 2000, captures the working classes and disaffected youth of 50s and 60s biker gangs in Switzerland. Embracing their own style within the post-war Swiss bubble, and using the American ‘rebel’ look of James Dean and Elvis Presley to striking effect, these teenagers known as ‘Halbstarke’ have been an inspiration to many designers and photographers the world over.
