Karl Stittgen and Noriko Sasaki’s ceramics, vessels and sculptures are made of stoneware and individually formed by hand. Any imperfections are the result of the working process or are intentional to create a sense of Thusness or Wabi Sabi, the beauty of imperfection. Each piece is one of a kind and marked with their seal.
“Images of shapes and textures absorbed on my daily walks are embedded in my mind and guide my hands. Moss and lichen covered rock fissures, the cleavages and abrasions on ancient trees and the flotsam of the seashore are among the impressions that are reflected in my work.”
